British Columbia Natural Disturbance Database
Objectives
The objectives of this project are to:
- Develop a digital atlas of landscape-scale natural disturbances (fire and insects) in BC forests.
- Make natural disturbance databases and data visualization tools available to other researchers, practitioners and the public through the Internet and other electronic means.
- Determine the frequency, probability, variation, and pattern of disturbance from analysis of historical fire and insect outbreak data; and relationships between disturbance agents and topography, climate, and forest stand characteristics.
- Develop and demonstrate techniques to incorporate disturbance information into forest resource management planning, including timber supply analysis.
